Prescription Drug Prices

How is it possible the cost of some prescription drugs cost more through health insurance than they do directly from the manufacturer? People should not be choosing between their prescriptions and heat, or their prescriptions and dinner.  Growing up, I would hear stories about busses of seniors that would travel to Canada to get their 90 day supply of drugs because they were so much cheaper over the border. We need transparency, fair pricing, and a system that puts people's health ahead of industry profits. Major health insurance companies had 2025 net profits in the billions. With a B.

The system is not designed for the people it serves.

Here's what I would change:
First, real price transparency. Every patient should be able to see, before they buy, what a drug costs with insurance and without it. No surprises at the counter.
Second, pass the savings through to the people. If drug companies are giving discounts and rebates, those savings should go directly to the patients, not get stuck with middlemen.
Third, let people choose the lowest price. If paying cash is cheaper than using insurance, patients should be allowed to take that price and have it count toward their deductible.
And finally, hold the system accountable. When companies are making billions while people are choosing between medication and rent, something is out of balance.
